March Snow

We had 3 good inches of heavy wet snow in the QC over the weekend. Just the other day I was thinking that I didn't make the opportunity to get my 2 year old son in the snow this winter. so we played in the back yard yesterday. Throwing snowballs at each other and sledding down the little hill. It was so nice. I had a hard time getting him back in the house since playing in the snow was so fun, not even the promise of hot coco would get him in the house. I ended up just picking him up and bringing him in screaming. Oh well, we did have some hot coco and he got a bath then time for a nap while I did the taxes.

March snow is fun.

Papa charley.

My Mom left me a voice mail to day to let me know that my uncle’s father has passed this morning. He started having brain issues a month or so ago and I’m sure this lead to the final dance this morning.

I’m not sure how I am to feel. He was my grandfather when I was very young but he and my bio-grand mother divorced when I was your too so I never really knew him. I have a couple of memories of him.

One was of me running around and I fell on my ass. I think it must have hurt because I was crying. He told me to get over it or something like that. Of course that didn’t work so he asked what my mom does when I get hurt. I told him that she gives it a kiss. He laughed and said “you expect me to kiss your ass” I didn’t get it at the time but now I find it funny. He then proceeded to say what the hell and did it. I think he did it as a mixture of beer and to make me shut up.

I remember him as mean but he would let me sit on his lap and take a nap next to him. But that is about it.

As I got older and he showed back up after a 20 plus year absences from my life I found out that in his youth he was a part of The CCC or Civilian Conservation Corps and did work at Yellowstone national park. I might have something mixed up because I didn’t think he was that old but maybe he was.

I guess right now I just feel bad for those that I love that loved him. If that makes sense.

How to close a door

This week I have been taking the little guy to and from the sitters. This morning I woke up late and didn’t quite have my act together and managed to lock us out of the house. Luckily the young lady of the house is on spring break so after about 14 times of calling the house number via my cell phone she woke up and gave me my keys.

The real part of the story that I wanted to talk about was this. The little guy has learned the act of closing doors; however he believes that this is always a push situation. Case in point, this morning while locking my self out of the house I told him “ok, now we need to shut the door” he tried to help but to close the door from the out side requires you to pull it shut. As I was pulling he was pushing. Because after all that’s how you close doors is to push them. At 19 months he has not learned every thing yet but it amazes me how much he is picking up. It’s the simple things that make being a parent so awesome. These are things I missed due to timing with our young teen. I wonder what would be different if I was around for that stuff way back when. Looking back I was obviously not mature enough when she was 4 out doubt I would have been any better when she was 1. But now is a different time in every ones life.

Speaking of the teenager in the house. She is studding for her drivers permit. On Monday her Grandpa let her drive a little in a parking lot. I’m hoping she gets to lean a stick but that is becomes less and less likely these days.

Burnitz you suck

Back in the summer of 2001 my wife and daughter took a little vacation through Wisconsin the bulk of which was spent in the greater Milwaukee area. We had trouble getting a room because as our luck would have it both the State Fair and Gen-Con was going on. Kind of funny that I used to play a lot of D&D and I didn’t realize that was the same time Gen-Con was happening.

Those that know me know I am a big base-ball fan. I love the game. I can watch 2 teams that I don’t give a damn about and love it. Hell, I’ll even watch Little League if I happen to walk by. So it was no surprise that we took in a game at the old Milwaukee County Stadium and watch the Cardinals play the Brewers. Our seats were in the 2nd row off the filed in home run territory off the right filed foul pole. Nice seats and the people around use were good people to. The family in front of us were from northern Minnesota and the guy behind use rode his bike down and then back up the Mississippi.

But the most memorable part of that trip was during the game a cardinal player hit a shot toward us bounced once then went up against the wall. The right fielder for the Brewers ran over to retrieve the ball. Bobbled it a little and turned to through to second base. I was with in 5 feet of this guy. My chance to yell something and being sure a major league player would hear me. So I yelled at the top of my lungs whial reading the name on the back of his jersey “Burnitz you suck!!!!!” He turned and looked at me dead in the eyes with a look that told me he wanted me dead.

He was up to bat in the next inning and stuck out. Then the next time he was up he stuck out then the last time he was up that that night he flew out or maybe got a double I don’t remember for sure but I am positive I was the reason he stuck out the 2 times before then.

Since then it’s been a running joke in the Ware house hold when ever we see him that famous quote comes up. Now for the bad news. He does suck and most likely he will be a Cub this year.
